BIG GAME: Balancing Player Preferences and Design Considerations in a Serious Game About Environmental Issues

The article reflects on the benefits, challenges, and limitations of accommodating player preferences in serious game design. Based on a case study from an ongoing game development project (an environmentally themed multiplayer game for middle-schoolers), it discusses how player preferences need to be balanced against design considerations such as practicality and educational value.
